New Zealand Halfbred

The New Zealand Halfbred is a registered breed of sheep, originally developed in the 19th century by crossing one of the English longwool breeds such as Lincoln, English Leicester, or Romney, with the Merino.

New Zealand Halfbreds are mainly farmed in the foothills of the South Island high country. Their wool has a fiber diameter of 25-31 microns, intermediate between Corriedale and Polwarth. Staple length is 3 to 4 inches.
