Rose Varieties

	Félicité Parmentier
	Full, 2 1/2 inch, densely packed flowers of fresh pink, later reflexing almost to a ball and fading to cream at the edges. A beautifully formed and most charming bloom. Growth short for an Alba, and bushy. 4 ft. X 4 ft.

	Fragrant Candy
	As the name suggests this rose has a very sweet fragrance. Its large bud presents a wild blend of pinks and apricot that continues throughout the slow opening process. It has a long, strong stem and glossy foliage. This variety has few thorns and good keeping quality.

Gentle Hermione

This variety bears some of the most perfectly formed flowers of true Old Rose character. Starting as attractive, nicely rounded buds, the flowers gradually open to shallow cups with all their petals perfectly arranged. Their colour is pure pink with soft blush on the outside and a lovely pure pink at the centre; the whole effect being totally charming. ‘Gentle Hermione’ will form an attractive, rounded shrub of medium height with slightly arching stems. It has excellent health and the petals are particularly resistant to rain It has a strong, warm, classic Old Rose scent with a hint of myrrh. Hermione was the faithful wife of Leontes, the King of Sicilia and mother of Perdita in Shakespeare’s ‘The Winter’s Tale’. 4 x 3ft.

Gentle Hermione - Own Root

	Geoff Hamilton
	Named in memory of an old friend; this rose is strong-growing, healthy and exceptionally disease-resistant. The flowers are of a warm, soft pink and deceptively delicate in appearance; cupped at first the outer ring of petals dropping back and fading to white, to provide a most attractive effect. There is a light Old Rose fragrance with a hint of apple. 4 ft x 3 ft.

Gertrude Jekyll

The flowers of this rose start as perfect little scrolled buds and soon open into the most beautiful, large, rosette-shaped flowers of rich glowing pink. The growth is upright and vigorous and in every way reliable. The most outstanding characteristic of this lovely rose is its beautiful and perfectly-balanced Old Rose scent. This is often described as being the quintessential old rose fragrance. The foliage and growth are similar to that of a Portland Rose, with the typical Portland widely-spaced leaflets. It forms a medium sized shrub which is robust and free flowering. Gertrude Jekyll was a famous garden designer, who has had a profound effect on the style of English gardens of the present day. In the hottest areas of the US (zones 9 or higher), this rose may repeat flower less well than in cooler areas. To maintain as a shrub in warmer zones we recommend summer pruning. 5 ft. x 3.5 ft. or 8-10 ft. as a climber

	Glamour Girl
	A firm dual toned pink bud that on opening becomes a rich clear mid pink. We foresee many uses for this fashionable colour

	Graceful
	This blend of pale to mid pink, large, rounded buds has lightly frilled outer petals that gracefully unfurl to reveal a deeper warm pink centre of elegant form which is complimented by large attractive deep green foliage.

	Grand Diva
	A tall slender bud of a vibrant hot pink colour that opens into an exquisite extra large classically shaped bloom. With its elegance and size this variety sets the new bench mark in this colour group.

Harlow Carr

A tough little rose that bears flowers of the most perfect formation - shallow cups of the purest rose pink. These hold their form to the end; the occasional petal falling back to give a pleasing effect. The plant has an excellent bushy habit, maturing into an attractively rounded shrub with its flowers almost to ground level - a characteristic that we particularly favour at David Austin Roses. The young foliage is bronze at first, later becoming green - and the whole plant is of truly ‘Old Rose’ character. There is a strong, pure Old Rose fragrance that has been described as reminiscent of rose-based cosmetics. Harlow Carr is the newest and most northerly of the R.H.S. gardens in the UK. A fine display of English Roses has been created there.

Heather Austin

A beautiful rose with a strong character of its own. Its large flowers are deep pink and of attractive incurved cup formation, with numerous golden stamens to be seen within. The growth is vigorous, bushy and free of disease. There is a delicious Old Rose fragrance and when the flowers open they reveal a delicious scent of clove coming from the stamens. Named after David Austin¹s sister. 4 ft. x 3.5 ft.

Heavenly Rosalind

Similar to the 'Alexandra Rose', bearing masses of medium to smaller-sized single flowers continually on a fairly large and well-formed, twiggy shrub. The difference is that this rose has soft pink flowers that deepen towards the edges of the petals, giving a dainty, Wild Rose effect. It is hardy, bushy and flowers with remarkable continuity: in every way an excellent shrub for a border, or to stand alone singly or in a small group. 4.5 ft x 4 ft.

This is a flower of delicate shell-like beauty. The growth is excellent, showing signs of its grandparent Iceberg, with a smooth, rather ‘Musk Rose’ foliage and clean stems with only a few thorns. It is strong and bushy with excellent repeat-flowering properties and will grow to form a shapely, well-rounded shrub. It has a beautiful fragrance, with overtones of fruit, honey and carnation on a myrrh background.

	Hot Gossip
	This medium size intense hot pink bud opens slowly and presents an electric pink glow.

Huntington Rose

A beautiful rose of true Old Rose character. The flowers gradually open to reveal a many-petalled center, the petals incurving in the most attractive manner. Their color is a pleasing shade of deep pink. They have a delicious, soft and warm Old Rose fragrance. This is a particularly tough and healthy variety with slightly arching stems which, at maturity, forms an attractive, rounded shrub. If pruned lightly, it will grow quite tall and be suitable for the back of a border. Pruned harder it will be of medium height and so could be placed closer to the front of the border. All the signs are that this rose will become one of our leading varieties. Named after the Huntington Library where Clair Martin is the curator for the rose garden. His continued enthusiasm for the English Roses has inspired many gardeners. 4 ft. x 3 ft.

Hyde Hall

This is a very large shrub which, unlike most other shrubs of its size, has the ability to flower with exceptional continuity throughout the summer. It owes this ability to its unusual and original parentage. It can be expected to achieve some 7 or 8 ft. in height. It is exceptionally tough and disease-resistant. The flowers are produced with quite exceptional freedom. They are rosette shaped and their colour is a medium pink. Their foliage is not dissimilar to that of a Dog Rose. ‘Hyde Hall’ would be excellent for the back of a border or as a specimen in a lawn - or, being particularly tough, reliable and healthy, as a most attractive boundary hedge. Although the fragrance is relatively light, it is nonetheless delightfully warm and fruity. Named after the R.H.S. garden in Essex, which is set to be the Society’s main garden for roses - and includes many English Roses. 6 ft. x 5 ft.

	Ispahan
	Pompon des Princes). Exquisite half-open blooms of lovely clear pink, opening to form a loosely reflexed flower. Free flowering, and one of the first of the Old Roses to bloom and last to finish. A very fine Damask fragrance. 5 ft. x 4 ft.

	Jacques Cartier
	Very similar to ‘Comte de Chambord’, but with even more perfect flowers. Beautiful, large, rosette-shaped, rich pink flowers with a very strong fragrance. 4 ft. x 3 ft. (Moreau-Robert 1868).

James Galway

A superb, large shrub with long, slightly arching, almost thornless growth - typical of our 'Leander' group. The colour is a lovely warm pink at the centre, shading to pale pink at the edges. This is a tough, disease-free rose that is excellent for the back of a mixed border and can be trained into a wonderful short cimber. The flowers are large and full, with many petals arranged in a neat formation. There is a delicious Old Rose fragrance. It was named in celebration of the 60th birthday of James Galway, the world famous flautist. Summer prune to maintain it as a shrub and encourage quicker repeat flowering. 5 ft. x 3.5 ft.
