Vibrant (formerly EM1119) was bred at East Malling Research from the cross SDBL101 x EM881 and was first selected in 1999.
Berries are glossy with very good shape and large size. Skin colour is slightly darker than Elsanta. Good flavour. Mean brix readings slightly lower than Elsanta, although shelf life similar.
Suitable for all market outlets.
Erect plants with moderate vigour. Fruit held on very long peduncles.
Moderately resistant to powdery mildew (Podosphaera aphanis). Susceptible to wilt (Verticillium dahliae).
Use of the Variety
Vibrant has an early season and exceptionally good Class 1 percentage. It is well suited to 60-day production and can be grown in soil or substrate. For the maincrop season, tunnels are recommended to take advantage of the early season.
