Tibetan Sand Fox

Main Characteristics
Tibetan Sand Foxes are a very unusual looking species of fox. They have a body length between 50 and 70 cms (19.6 - 27.6 inches), a tail length between 29 and 40 cms (11.4 - 15.7 inches) and they weigh between 3 and 6 kgs (6.6 - 13.2 lbs).

Their thick fur is yellowish and grey in colour with a pale underside. They have a broad, square head and small, triangular ears.

Habitat
Tibetan Sand Foxes can be found in the highlands and steppes of Nepal and Tibet.

Diet
Tibetan Sand Foxes mainly feed on pikas, but they will also eat rodents, rabbits, hares, ground birds, insects, carrion and fruit.

Breeding
After a gestation period of 51 - 53 days, Tibetan Sand Foxes give birth to a litter of 3 - 6 young in a den.

Predators

Humans are predators of Tibetan Sand Foxes.

Subspecies
There are no subspecies of the Tibetan Sand Fox.
