Hoary Fox

Main Characteristics
Hoary Foxes have a body length of approximately 60 cms (23.6 inches), a tail length of approximately 30 cms (11.8 inches), and they weigh between 2.7 and 4 kgs (6 - 8.8 lbs).

They are grey in colour with a pale underside and reddish/brown markings on their ears and legs. Their tail has a dark stripe along the dorsal line and a black tip. They are active during the day.

Hoary Foxes can be found in the wooded, mountainous and savanna areas of central South America.

Hoary Foxes mainly feed on insects, but they will also eat rodents.

After a gestation period of 55 - 60 days, Hoary Foxes give birth to 2 - 4 cubs in a den.

Humans are predators of Hoary Foxes.

There are no subspecies of the Hoary Fox.
