Rose Varieties

	Affinity
	A shapely high centred medium size lemon bud that does not alter in colour, the flower opens gradually and evenly in a very appealing way through to the fully open bloom that has very good holding qualities.

	Blythe Spirit
	This rose belongs to our ‘Spray-Flowered’ group. It is very pretty and rather different from any other variety. The flowers, which are a lovely soft yellow, are in the shape of small cups and are well spaced over the whole plant. Dainty sprays of flowers are produced throughout the season. It is a remarkably good garden plant which is highly resistant to disease.

	Buttercup
	This variety has much of the grace and elegance of the beautiful Windflower. Its flowers are held on long, slender, arching stems - drooping their heads slightly to give a most pleasing effect. They are loosely cupped and a little more than semi-double; their colour being a lovely coppery-yellow. A superb garden shrub that should associate well with other plants. There is a pleasant scent.

Charles Darwin

The blooms of Charles Darwin are some of the largest to be found in the English Roses and are on a par with Brother Cadfael and Golden Celebration, creating a really impressive effect in the garden. The flowers are very full and rounded at first, then opening up to a shallow cup. They are a lovely shade of rich yellow - almost Old Gold - sometimes with lemony or sandy tints. It makes a most attractive, bushy and eye catching shrub that is very healthy and would be ideal for towards the front of a mixed or pure rose border.

Charlotte

Exquisite flowers of a soft yellow color. The blooms start off beautifully cupped, later opening out to form a rosette shape. Each bloom is packed with numerous small petals, arranged around a classic button eye. There is a medium-strong and very pleasant Tea Rose fragrance. A very free flowering variety which repeats well. Charlotte has excellent green foliage and a compact, bushy habit, with even, upright growth. All in all, one of the most beautiful of the yellow English Roses and also, for those with particularly cold winters, one of the hardiest. Dedicated to Charlotte, who is one of David Austin’s granddaughters.

Charlotte - Own Root

Exquisite cup-shaped flowers, of medium size and soft yellow colouring. The growth is compact, bushy and rather upright. Comte de Champagne

'Comte de Champagne' has flowers of a rich yellow colouring which as they open, gradually turn to a pleasing pale yellow. They open to form a perfect open cup, with a 'mop' of stamens of deepest yellow; the whole providing a delightful range of colour on the bush at one time. The growth is wide, low and bushy, producing its flowers on slender, arching stems. There is a delicious honey and musk fragrance that complements the flower to perfection. Healthy and free flowering. This rose is named after Taittinger's finest champagne. The president of Taittinger, M Claude Taittinger, is a descendant of Thiabaut IV, Count of Champagne and Brie and who introduced R. gallica Officinalis (The Apothecary's Rose) from Damascus on his return from the 7th Cruscade in 1250. He was a great lover of roses and wrote about them in his poetry.

	Eureka
	A tall firm bud that opens into an elegant bloom of a vibrant deep yellow that maintains this colour on opening.

	Gold Coast
	A shapely bud of deep yellow and warm overtones, with strong straight thornless dark red stems that is complimented by large deep green foliage. This variety has an appealing overall appearance.

Golden Celebration

This is one of the largest-flowered and most magnificent of our English Roses. Its color is rich golden yellow and the flowers are in the form of a giant, full-petalled cup. It has excellent shapely growth, forming a nicely rounded, slightly arching shrub with ample foliage. It is very reliable and easy to grow. An ideal rose to mark any celebration or important event. The flowers are initially Tea-scented but often develop a wonderful combination of sauterne wine and strawberry.

	Golden Delicious
	An Incredible extra large yellow rose, with a touch of lime on the outer guard petals. This mammoth rose is firm in texture and has excellent vase life. This rose is currently one of the largest cut yellows available in the world.

	Golden Showers

	Golden Wings
	Not unlike a shrubby version of the famous ‘Mermaid’. It has large, almost single, yellow flowers with mahogany-coloured stamens and a refreshing scent. Pale green leaves and excellent continuity of flowering.

Graham Thomas

One of the most widely grown and best loved English Roses. ‘Graham Thomas’ has been voted the World’s Favourite Rose by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) which represents over 100,000 rose lovers in 41 member countries. The award was announced at the 2009 World Rose Convention in Vancouver, when the rose was inducted into the society’s ‘Rose Hall of Fame’. It has cupped flowers of medium size; their colour being an unusually rich and pure yellow that would be hard to match even among modern Hybrid Teas. The growth is upright but bushy and very vigorous, with shiny, pale green, disease-resistant leaves. It is an excellent rose, both in beauty and performance. There is a fresh Tea Rose fragrance, with a cool violet character typical of its colour group. Named for the late Graham Stuart Thomas, who was one of the most influential rosarians of our time. Would benefit from summer pruning if grown as a shrub.

Jude The Obscure

‘Jude the Obscure’ vies with Golden Celebration for the first place as the most magnificent of the English Roses. Its flowers are very large and of incurved chalice shape. Their color is a pleasing medium yellow on the inside of the petals and a paler yellow on the outside. It has excellent, strong and almost completely disease-free growth. This rose is particularly fine in a dry climate, although it may ball in the rain. A very strong, unusual and delicious fragrance with a fruity note reminiscent of guava and sweet white wine. Named after the character in Thomas Hardy’s novel

	Julia Child
	An outstanding variety with bright golden yellow flowers that are produced with excellent continuity. It is also extremely healthy and the bush an attractive round shape. Good spicy, sweet fragrance. A very worthy winner of a AARS award. 3ft (Wekvossutono Carruth 2006.)

	Lemoncello
	This is a large variety with a clear lemon yellow bud that opens into a striking well-formed bloom with strong stems and attractive foliage.

	Lime & Lemon
	This rose of medium size in bud shows an intriguing lime green outer petal and light yellow centre, giving this vibrant rose a visual impact.

Malvern Hills

We are pleased to introduce this rose, as it is almost unique in that it is a repeat flowering rambler. It blooms intermittently throughout the summer, bearing small, fully double blooms of lovely soft yellow, in medium to large clusters. The growth is strong and slender, with attractive polished foliage and few thorns. It will easily cover an arch, or it will achieve 10 - 12ft on a wall or trellis. There is a light Noisette fragrance. Named after the beautiful Malvern Hills, not too far to the south of our Nursery and home to the composer, Sir Edward Elgar.
