Mme Hardy
|
One of the classic Old Roses. The blooms are not very large, of pretty cupped formation at first, later becoming flat and finally reflexing. There is the slightest hint of blush in the early stages, but later they become a pure glistening white, while at the center, a small green eye adds to the attraction. They are held in nicely-poised clusters and are fragrant, with just a hint of lemon. The growth is rather stiff and upright and so is good for mixed borders.
Hardy (who had charge of the Empress Josephine’s famous rose collection at Malmaison) named it for his wife. |

A most attractive variety with large heads of fragrant single white flowers that are produced with quite exceptional continuity. A remakably hardy rose that will perform well in less than ideal conditions. An excellent crop of bright red hips in the autumn. |
|
Serenity
|
This variety has strong stems with dark glossy leaves that remain close and compact. The broad cream high pointed bud has just a hint of pink in the tip and towards the petal margin that fades as the bloom opens. With an elegant bud and open bloom Serenity is a beautiful rose. |
|
Snow Goose
|
A short, repeat flowering rambler growing to 8 to 10 ft. It bears sprays of small white pompon flowers, well filled with narrow petals, which gives them a slightly daisy-like appearance. The stems are relatively thornless and straight but they are still easy to train over an arch or across a wall, fence or trellis. Very disease-free and reliable. |

Sombreuil Climbing

Susan Williams-Ellis

The Mayflower was introduced in 2001 and has become a firm favourite with its charming rosette shaped flowers of pure rose pink, strong fragrance and of course its extremely good health. It remained stable until 5 or 6 years ago but then suddenly a stem with pure white flowers appeared: this is the result. The remarkable thing about these two roses is that insofar as we are aware they are completely free from disease and also start to flower so early in the season – usually late May or early June at our Shropshire nursery and then continuing almost without stop until the harder frosts. For those in a really cold climate, it is also extremely winter hardy. Good white roses are particularly difficult to breed and so we are particularly delighted to have found this variety. The fragrance is strong and perfectly Old Rose in character. Ideal for the border, for hedging or for a container. A delightful, unassuming little rose of typical Old Rose beauty.
Susan Williams Ellis was a designer who, together with her husband Euan Cooper-Willis, founded Portmeirion Pottery. Susan was a great enthusiast of the English Roses and painted some beautiful water colours of them. |

Winchester Cathedral
|
A lovely, white version of the beautiful Mary Rose, It has all the virtues of its parent and is similar in every way, except that its flowers are white with occasionally the slightest touch of buff-pink at the centre. The overall effect is excellent, with a mass of flowers held on a bushy shrub, which blooms at regular intervals throughout the season.
The fragrance is of Old Rose character with a hint of honey and almond blossom.
Named after one of the finest Cathedrals in Britain. |

Windermere
|
Perfectly rounded buds open to full, cupped flowers. The blooms are rich cream at first, paling to almost pure white. They have a delicious, fruity fragrance with a hint of citrus. A very free-flowering variety which continues to flower until very late in the season. It forms an attractive, neat and compact plant which produces many basal shoots that have the advantage of having few thorns. |
