Green Veined White
Special features: At first glance this looks like a small white butterfly. On closer inspection, when it is resting, you can see the green lines on the underside of the wings which give this butterfly its name.
Latin name: Pieris napi
Size: Wingspan approximately 45mms.
Distribution: Throughout the UK except The Shetlands.
Months seen: April to September.
Habitat: Damp meadows and woodlands.
Food: Nectar. The caterpillars feed on water cress and garlic mustard.
